Cranley is a suburb located 6 kilometres from the central business district. A railway station existed here from the 1870’s, named after James Cranley, a landholder and farmer in the district. James Cranley was a Toowoomba municipal councillor from 1864 to 1865. He was born in County Tipperary, Ireland around 1811 and died in Toowoomba on the 3rd July 1890.
